Service With a Grumble

Am I alone in feeling unloved?
One of the perks in my job is being able to justify eating out as ‘Work’ but over the last year I feel the way we as customers are treated has changed.
Maybe the job attracts nomadic students, or people considering it as a stepping stone not a career choice and this effects the attitude taken when at work.
In a time where people are penny watching and thinking about cutting down on ‘Luxury’ meals out, as a restauranteur good customer service has never been of such value to a business.
Although customer service costs money in terms of extra staff needed to provide the extra touches and take real interest in the customer it must be seen as an investment.
However there is such a thing as ‘Over excited’ service. I don’t need the weather forecast relayed to me, or the latest travel news or a comment on my enthusiastic quiff.

It’s a fine line between attentive and too interested- I’d urge employers however busy to eat out and understand what makes good and bad service. In time this will only be on benefit for their business.
